PS4 Official Price Drop Coming Tomorrow, Now $349
Sony officially announced the PS4’s first price cut in the US today. Some models will go down to $349.99, instead of the old asking price of $399.99. This price reduction will be effective starting tomorrow, Friday October 9th. This coincides with the release of Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection.
Here’s what Sony had to say on the Playstation Blog:
Since the launch of PS4, we have been thrilled with the amount of gamers jumping into the world of PlayStation for the first time. If you haven’t made the jump yet, and you’re starting early on your holiday wish list, I have good news – we’re dropping the price of the PlayStation 4 system in the U.S. and Canada. Starting tomorrow, October 9, you’ll be able to pick up PS4 starting at the new price of $349.99 USD / $429.99 CAD (MSRP). Our goal at PlayStation has always been to provide the best gameplay experiences at the best value, and we feel this new compelling price will open the doors to even more gamers that have yet to purchase a system
The 500GB bundle that includes the Uncharted Collection and standard Star Wars Battlefront bundles will drop to $349.99 instead of $399. The Limited Edition Disney Infinity and Battlefront bundles will drop from $449.99 to $399.99 while the Call of Duty Black Ops III 1TB model will be priced at $429 instead of $449.
It will be interesting to see who takes the sales crown in the US during October and the holidays. Sony certainly has big-name bundles, like Call of Duty and Battlefront but Microsoft is releasing Halo 5 on October 27th.
At the very least, this holiday will be one for the ages. Will this PS4 price cut be enough to stop the Xbox One from outselling the PS4 in the US during the holidays like it did last year when Microsoft dropped the system’s price to $349?
