Splatoon hits Wii U ‘first half’ of 2015, will have single player and local modes

Nintendo has told Game Rant that they plan on releasing their innovative new IP, Splatoon, in the first half of 2015. That means we’ll get this unique, paint based team shooter before June 2015.

The game will also ship with a single player mode and a 1v1 local competitive mode in addition to online modes.

Nintendo says:

First of all, our plan is to release this as a full retail packaged software in 2015… the first half of 2015. And because we’re releasing this as a full software title, we of course plan to include a single-player mode but then also a one-on-one multiplayer mode that can be played without connecting to the Internet.

As far as the newly announced 1 versus 1 local mode, Nintendo hinted that this mode would be more stealth based:

What we can tell you about the one-on-one, at least, is that one player will be using the GamePad, one player will be using the Pro Controller. And we’re actually thinking of having that one-on-one mode be something kinda completely different from the four-on-four one where it’ll be, you know, kind of a lot more stalking and hiding in the ink. It’ll be much more like a quiet mode in a sense.

I’m looking forward to Splatoon a lot. I’m very happy to hear that Nintendo is aiming for first half of 2015. Of course the game could always get delayed but it looked pretty good and far along at E3 last week.

I’m hopeful it will release closer to the beginning of the year rather than May or June 2015. Nintendo typically tries to release a big Wii U/3DS game around Feb/March and then another around May/June so let’s hope Splatoon arrives on store shelves as soon as possible.
