Sony: 31% of PS4 owners jumped ship from Xbox/Nintendo, 17% are entirely new gamers

Sony has a new survey that shows just how popular the PS4 has been since launch.

Their research says that 31% of PS4 owners owned an Xbox 360 or Wii before buying their PS4 but didn’t own a PS3 at all last generation.

Sony VP of marketing John Koller had this to say about these consumers:

They are the people who, when you walk in [to their home], there’s no books on their book shelves. They’re all game packages. They’re the people who stood in line at midnight [for the console's launch]. They really are a fantastic consumer for us. They’re a great part of the PlayStation nation.

In addition to this, Sony says that 17% of all PS4 owners so far didn’t own a last-generation console (360/PS3/Wii) meaning the PS4 has managed to bring some non-gamers or casual mobile gamers into the console space.

I’d have to agree with Sony’s numbers. I’ve seen countless friends already upgrade their Xbox 360s to PS4 systems and not look back once at Microsoft’s Xbox One or even Nintendo’s Wii U. Sony’s marketing has just been that good but it also helps that Microsoft made a very bad impression with the XB1 last year.
