Miyamoto ‘uneasy’ over VR gaming, may not be ‘best way’ to play games

Nintendo’s legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto isn’t the biggest fan of VR gaming. After trying out the Oculus Rift at E3, Miyamoto had this to say:

When you think about what virtual reality is, which is one person putting on some goggles and playing by themselves kind of over in a corner, or maybe they go into a separate room and they spend all their time alone playing in that virtual reality, that’s in direct contrast with what it is we’re trying to achieve with Wii U. And so I have a little bit of uneasiness with whether or not that’s the best way for people to play.

Some people will groan at his comments but I totally understand them. I do enjoy online gaming and a great single player experience but I do not want gaming’s future to be centered around everyone staring into screens latched onto their heads.

Nintendo will probably near embrace VR gaming in the way that most fans would like to see. Personally I’m fine with at least one major console maker not forgetting about local multiplayer.
