Local co-op confirmed for Star Fox on Wii U
In an interview with Kotaku, legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed that the newly announced Star Fox for Wii U will support two player local co-op. In addition to this, the game has already been confirmed to feature online play during the Nintendo Treehouse E3 stream.
Miyamoto said:
We’ve designed it so there’s the ability for cooperative play where one player is able to pilot the ship and the other player is able to use the GamePad and be the gunner. So they can just aim and shoot. They don’t have to worry about flying. We’re still developing the game… but one thing we always like to try to do is have some sort of way for people to play together, and the thing about these types of space shooter games is that they’re fairly easy to get into but they can look somewhat intimidating and complicated, so this time what we’re doing is we actually have a mode—we just didn’t show it—we’ve designed it so there’s the ability for cooperative play where one player is able to pilot the ship and the other player is able to use the GamePad and be the gunner. So they can just aim and shoot. They don’t have to worry about flying.
Sounds like an interesting take on co-op for me. It will help the younger kids I know play the game better too.
I’m still holding out for a 4-player co-op mode where each player controls their own arwing or maybe some provide support from the ground in a tank or another type of ground based vehicle.
Miyamoto says this Star Fox game should be out in the next 12 months so hopefully we’ll be playing its co-op and online modes before E3 2015!
