Top 5 video game system boot screens

This may sound silly to some of you but there is a number of people who enjoy the older boot screens from video game systems.

Many of us have fond memories of the first time we booted up our GameCubes and heard that little tune or the awe of the orange Sony logo when a brand new PS1 was first activated.

Sadly current consoles don’t have the most imaginative opening screens. The Xbox 360 does a bit of a whoosh sound and the PS3′s start up certainly has it’s own charm. We won’t even mention the warning screen for the Nintendo Wii. How could you do that to us Nintendo?

Here is our list of the top 5 video game boot screens in history.

Number 5: Original Xbox Boot Screen.

When you started your original Xbox you knew you were playing a new generation of games that use features like online multi-player, high definition visuals and others that wouldn’t become the norm until the years following the system’s release.

Number 4: Sega Dreamcast Developer Kit Boot Screen

I know this one is a bit unfair. You probably don’t remember ever seeing this when you turned on your old Dreamcast. That’s because it was just for development kits. Still, we wish it had been the one Sega chose for the console during release.

Number 3: GameCube Boot Screen

It’s hard to resist listing the GameCube’s boot sequence. It has a unique charm that we still quite don’t understand. The best part of the short jingle that plays every time you turn on your GameCube is that it sets the mood for what you’re about to do and that is play video games. Nothing else but play awesome games.

Number 2: Sega CD Boot Screen

While we prefer the music from the Japanese model of the Mega CD this start up screen is actually pretty neat. It blew my mind back in the day.

Number 1: Playstation Boot Screen

You can argue that the original Playstation’s boot screen wasn’t that flashy. But something about the music playing adds a level of epic awesomeness that we still get chills from today.

That’s just our list and we’re sure you won’t be entirely pleased with it. Never fear! Leave a comment and tell us which boot screen you think is the best.
