VentureBeat makes odd comment about the Wii U Game Pad.
Michael Pachter is a funny guy. He often says something like it’s a fact but then the complete opposite happens. People like to give him flack for this. Whether he deserves this or not is debatable but this time a news outlet made a Pachter-like comment that puzzles us while talking to the Pach-man himself.
Maybe Pachter’s knack for making outrageous comments is contagious and he sneezed on VentureBeat thus infecting them with his zany brand of industry analysis.
While discussing the subject of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 for the Wii U with Michael Pachter (which is already being previewed by a Nintendo magazine) VentureBeat said this:
“After all, you can’t really play blockbuster games like the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops II with the Wii U’s tablet controller.”
I wonder if VentureBeat has actually seen a full 360 degree view of the Wii U Game Pad. It has all the same buttons as a 360/PS3 controller even with pressure sensitive analog sticks.
Furthermore Call of Duty would be enhanced by the Wii U Game Pad’s touch screen. Imagine you’ve acquired an airstrike but you’re looking for a spot to hide so you can bring up the map to select where to place your fiery doom from above.
You’re completely vulnerable during these parts of Call of Duty when you’re selecting where to place things on the map. You can be killed easily in just a second. With the Wii U Game Pad’s touch screen you don’t have to worry about this anymore.
The controller screen can house an always-on game map and never bring the map onto your television and giving you no need to find a place to hide in order to reduce your chances of being killed while placing the airstrike.
You could look down for a moment and tap where you wanted the supply drop, airstrike, etc to land. All the while you could still be running with the left analog stick or performing other actions.
I fail to see how they can’t imagine this themselves. I don’t understand this logic by saying you can’t play COD with the Wii U Game Pad. If Activision does everything right you would likely not want to play Call of Duty with anything other than the Wii U Game Pad given the possibilities.
