Five New Year's Resolutions for Gamers (Credit: Kotaku)
Kotaku has a very good article about new year’s resolutions for gamers for the impending 2011 new year.
I’ve read it, and I think it contains messages all gamers should read. It touches on some of the hostility in the gaming community to outsiders, specifically casual gamers who play popular games like FarmVille on Facebook.
The nature of introverted gamers rejecting those who don’t share the same industry views (or wealth of knowledge) has become one of the most alarming trends in the industry in the last few years. I understand the fear of what we love being “corrupted” by new comers, because when you love and enjoy something you want to protect it.
But these new gamers aren’t heretics. I don’t believe the best course of action at a time when gaming is gaining more and more media attention is to shun those we do not deem fit to be labeled the same type of gamer as us.
It is a complex issue, and I think the article from Kotaku speaks volumes about the issue, as well as bringing up other suggestions that should prove useful to all gamers.
