Non-FPS Call of Duty game “probably cancelled”

Sledgehammer games third person COD game is likely to be cancelled.

(Oct 17, 2011) — Sledgehammer Games General Manager Glen Schofield told CVG that the rumored third person, action adventure Call of Duty spin off is more than likely getting canned.
He says,
“We’ll probably cancel it. They gave us the choice of: do you want to work on Modern Warfare 3, or do you want to continue working on this? And we really liked that. We liked what we were doing. It third person, probably set at a time that might have niched it too much. I bet that if we had kept going, within a month or two I probably would have switched the time period, but kept the gameplay. It had some really cool stuff.”
That’s too bad. While it wouldn’t surprise us to see Activision force this one out of the door and onto retail shelves, I am disappointed to see the idea go to waste. A third person COD opens up so many directions for the franchise, and could have revitalized it.
