No New Assassin’s Creed Game This Year
In a new blog post, Ubisoft announced their plans to not release a new Assassin’s Creed game this year. Rather, their non-plans.
They are giving the franchise a break, one it has needed since it became an annualized franchise in 2009-2010. Here’s what Ubi has to say:
This year, we also are stepping back and re-examining the Assassin’s Creed franchise. As a result, we’ve decided that there will not be a new Assassin’s Creed game in 2016. Since the release of Assassin’s Creed Unity, we’ve learned a lot based on your feedback. We’ve also updated our development processes and recommitted to making Assassin’s Creed a premier open-world franchise. We’re taking this year to evolve the game mechanics and to make sure we’re delivering on the promise of Assassin’s Creed offering unique and memorable gameplay experiences that make history everyone’s playground.
They do have a film coming out later this year so its not like the series won’t be getting exposure. Still, its a bold move from Ubi to hold their money printing franchise back for a year or two.
I personally hope they make it worth the wait. The Assassin’s Creed franchise has dropped off in quality significantly in recent years.
