Nintendo not making Wii U GameCube adapter anymore

Hoping to get one of those GameCube controller adapters for your Wii U from a retailer so you don’t have to pay an outrageous price to an online seller? Looks like you may be out of luck.

EB Games Canada said this afternoon that Nintendo isn’t making anymore adapters right now, saying:

Haha, apparently Nintendo isn’t making anymore at the moment 🙁

That would be disappointing if true. Nintendo needs to ship more of these bad boys before the online price skyrockets even further. Back in 2012 a similar incident happened with the 3DS Circle Pad Pro. The accessory released in February 2012 but sold out virtually everywhere immediately. It wasn’t until May 2012 that stores got more stock and the accessory became readily available.

EB Games Canada would be in the know if Nintendo wasn’t making a product anymore. I’d still take this as a rumor though I don’t see any reason why EB Games would lie and potentially discourage customers from giving them money. Remember, this company is owned by GameStop. They will let you pre-order future shipments of hard to find products from time to time. So if they aren’t allowing pre-orders of this adapter because they say Nintendo isn’t making it anymore, there may be some truth to that.
