GameStop wants PS3/360 price cuts
The PS3 and Xbox 360 still retail for $199 or more outside of holiday sales. This is a jarring thing for many gamers who expected these consoles to hit PS2 era prices of $99 to $149 by this point in their lives.
Sales of the PS3 and Xbox 360 have fallen off a cliff in the US since the Xbox One, PS4 and Wii U have released. Now, GameStop President Tony Bartel indicates that the retailer would like to see price cuts for these aging consoles too. Bartel recently said:
We think it would be excellent and definitely would increase the sell-through rate on the old-generation consoles. We definitely think that would help
The problem with the PS3/360 is that they use older, more rare technology that hasn’t gone down in terms of production costs as much as Sony/Microsoft would have liked.
Personally I’d love to see a $99-$149 Xbox 360 and PS3 and I don’t mean the 12GB or 4GB units. Sadly that doesn’t look like it will happen. Thankfully the PS4 and Xbox One user far more common parts that should allow both companies to drop the prices on their hardware more often than they did this past generation.
