Sony reveals why The Last Guardian missed E3

Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida recently commented on Team Ico’s The Last Guardian not appearing at E3 again this year. It seems like we’ve heard this story dozens of times since 2010. Sadly Yoshida doesn’t give fans any reasons to hope for real news anytime soon.

Yoshida said:

There were a difficult couple of days before the show – I’m sure you noticed. I’m so happy it was retracted before the show happened. Lots of people tweeted me they were heartbroken by that news [prior to the show]. People are going through this roller coaster of emotions, and it’s our fault for not releasing the game, yet. We owe a lot to those people, but we really don’t want to release piecemeal information until we can say this is The Last Guardian – so we ask you to wait.

This is somewhat of a non-answer from Sony. Of course if The Last Guardian is going through development issues than they can’t really say anything about it.

Still, its getting really crazy how long Sony has been stringing along Ico fans. By this point most people had given up on seeing Duke Nukem Forever (though that would come out years later as a terrible game) or Super Mario 128 during their torturous and long development cycles.

Hopefully we hear real news on The Last Guardian soon or at least we get to stop “hoping” it still exists and get some concrete news on cancellation or a full resurrection in the near future.
