Project Cars delayed until 2015 on Wii U

Here’s some bad news for Wii U owners. Another major third party game has been delayed for the system.

It was announced today that the Wii U version of Project Cars won’t ship until sometime in 2015. The PC, PS4 and Xbox One versions will still ship this November.

Bandai Namco had this to say about the delay:

We’re committed to delivering an exceptional and unique experience for racing fans on Wii U and for this we kindly ask our devoted and passionate Nintendo fans for a little more time in order to ensure the game delivers on our vision of being the most authentic, beautiful, and technically-advanced racing game on any platform

At this point releasing the game on Wii U any later than the other console versions is a death sentence. I truly see no point, commercially for Namco, to release Cars on Wii U in 2015. The game will have already been played by those interested in playing it and I can’t imagine they’ll sell many more copies on Wii U.

It’s sad to see this delay for Project Cars on Wii U. The game was one of the big multiplatform third party titles that Wii U owners could say “See! Some third parties aren’t abandoning Wii U and are pushing the hardware”.
