Pachter: Wii U will beat sales goals, Nintendo won’t go third party

Michael Pachter isn’t always the nicest person when it comes to Nintendo’s current woes. That said, he’s actually got some positive opinions about Nintendo’s new Wii U fiscal year sales goal.

The other day, Nintendo said that they plan to sell 3.6 million Wii U systems between April 1st of this year and March 31st of 2015. Pachter believes that Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros U will help them over the edge to accomplish this, saying:

Yeah, I do too, and I mean, 5 or 10 million units, yes, but not 30 million units, not 50 million, they’re not going to catch up. But they won’t go third party, so the answer to your question is, no, I don’t think they’ll go third party. I think they’ve convinced themselves, I mean, I think they’d rather pursue their health and fitness initiative.

I’m surprised Pachter thinks they could sell more than 3.6 million units this fiscal year. I think that could happen too and it would be great to see some positive Wii U sales notes for once.

Still, Pachter is usually pretty hard on Nintendo when it comes to console sales. Then again, usually whatever he says doesn’t come true and the opposite actually happens but I don’t think that will happen in this instance.
