Lucasfilm: All Star Wars games, books and comic in the past are non-canon

Do you have fond memories of playing Jedi Academy, The Force Unleashed or Knights of the Old Republic? Well too bad for you, because Lucasfilm recently ruled that all Star Wars books, comics and video games are now considered non-canon.

Lucaasfilm said in their statement:

This includes the six Star Wars episodes, and the many hours of content he developed and produced in The Clone Wars. These stories are the immovable objects of Star Wars history, the characters and events to which all other tales must align

As a big Star Wars fan in my youth this is very distressing. The two Knights of the Old Republic games are easily better story wise than anything George Lucas has put forward since the 1980’s.

Not to mention the wealth of great Star Wars books like the Legacy of the Force and New Jedi Order series.

We can look forward to EA making canon Star Wars spin-offs in the future. I’m not sure if we’ll ever see any pre-Disney era Star Wars game get a re-release, sequel or any form of acknowledgment with comments like this from Lucasfilm.
