Criterion VP and Director leave to form new studio

Two of the best minds at Criterion Games, the developer behind Burnout and recent Need For Speed titles, have left.

Specifically Criterion VP Alex Ward and director Fiona Sperry have left them to form their own studio. EA confirmed this news today and thanked both of them by saying:

We appreciate their many contributions through the years and wish them well in their future endeavours

Ward and Sperry have worked on some of the best racing games around. They had been speaking about developing non-racing games in the near future much to the dismay of their loyal fans. Everyone likes the idea of Criterion branching out and trying new things but at the same time we’ll miss their amazing racers.

Ward took to Twitter and re-confirmed this news from EA, saying that he and Sperry will form a new studio shortly. I’m looking forward to seeing what Ward and company come up with. I’ll admit that I’d like it to be a racer but the most important thing is that Ward and Sperry get to spread their creative wings and fly.
