Rumor: Wii U capable of using two Wii U controllers at same time
Gamers have been on the edge of their collective seats waiting to see if Nintendo would let more than one Wii U controller be used on the system at once, for local multiplayer. Nintendo had previously stated that they were working on it, but there were fears this feature wouldn’t make it into the final product.
Those fears have been potentially put to rest by a NeoGAF user who appears to be in the know.

I double-checked to be sure.
“So far we know for sure that can be simultaneously connected 4 Wii Remote Plus, or at least 2 WiiU controllers (but not learned if they can be linked together, ie 4 Wii Remote Plus and 2 WiiU controllers at the same time).”
“We played wireless, so yes, it had battery inside.”
This would seem to be confirmation that the Wii U can interact with two Wii U controllers and up to four Wii remote plus units at the same time.
We could have some interesting six player local action going on here folks. Expect more details from Nintendo at E3.
