Rumor: New 2D Metroid in development

Reset ERA user mocolostrocolos may have leaked a new 2D Metroid game. This insider mentioned the Metroid 2 Game Boy remake for Nintendo 3DS all the way back in mid-2016.

No one noticed, for whatever reason, and it turned out that Nintendo had Mercury Stream re-imagining Metroid 2 for 3DS. Metroid: Samus Returns released last September on 3DS.

Now, mocolostrocolos is that a brand new 2D Metroid game is in the early stages of development. Who the developer is at this point is unknown. He/She says it is not being worked on by an internal Nintendo team but rather an outside studio. The game is said to have run into some development issues at some point but now development “is fine.”

Hopefully this is true. I would expect any and all projects Nintendo is starting from now on to be for Switch versus 3DS. With Samus Returns, Prime 4 and now a new 2D Metroid, it seems like Nintendo fans are getting the Samus revival they’ve been asking for.
