Report: Nintendo to increase Switch production to 25M-30M next year
Nintendo drastically under-estimated how successful the Nintendo Switch would be.
They originally thought they would sell 10M units in the system’s first year but since release it has been selling out.
A new report from the Wall Street Journal says that the console maker plans to significantly increase manufacturing in their next fiscal year, starting April 2018, to 25M-30M units for the entire year.
At the moment, the system is still selling out across the U.S., Europe and Japan. So while I don’t believe any devices other than the DS and PS2 have sold 25-30M in a single year, the Switch seems like the most likely to do it today.
If Nintendo fulfills this goal, they could potentially outsell the Wii U’s entire lifetime sales 3 times over in just over 2 years.
