Indie developer leaks Nintendo Switch achievement system

During a Reddit AMA with the developers of LICHTSPEER, a Nintendo Switch eShop title, accidentally spilled the beans on an achievement system for Nintendo’s home console.

One of the developer’s answered a fan question with this wording:

Nintendo doesn’t have an official support for Achievements and Leaderboards, like Sony or Microsoft but we know that they’re working on it.

The developer would go onto back peddle a bit, thinking that it had already been somewhat known to the community that Nintendo was working on an achievement system, adding this comment:

Oops. Move along. Nothing to see here.
PS. But seriously – I have a really strong feeling they hinted it a few times. [Tom]

With Nintendo rolling out their paid online gaming service sometime in early 2018, it is possible that this new system will debut around then. What it will be and how it will function is unknown.

I would think that if a smaller developer like this one had been informed of the secret achievement system by Nintendo directly then it would be set in stone pretty much and nearly complete.

Perhaps we’ll hear about this achievement system in Wednesday’s Nintendo Direct!
