Nintendo Switch has best selling Nintendo console U.S. debut, sells 905k in March

We finally have some concrete sales data for the Nintendos Switch in the U.S. Nintendo issued a press release today saying the system sold 906k units in the U.S. during March.

That is the most consoles sold during a launch month in the U.S. for any Nintendo console ever. Zelda Breath of the Wild sold 1.3 million copies, 925k for Switch and 460k for Wii U.

This is an impressive debut to say the least. The Wii U debut during the holidays in November 2012 and sold nearly half as many units. The Switch has been out of stock in most retailers around the world since March 3rd.

It seems to be a huge success, especially compared to the Wii U, out of the gate. Of course, it could always fall off a cliff but at this point I very much doubt it.

With the system still in short supply in April I’m sure it will put a good number this month too. With Mario Kart this month, ARMS in June and Splatoon 2 in July there is a good chance this momentum continues.
