Nintendo: Switch will get Netflix, Hulu, Amazon ‘in time’
While it is certainly disappointing that the Nintendo Switch has no multimedia apps right now, Nintendo of America’s Reggie Fils-Aime wants fans to know that video streaming apps and their ilk will come to the Switch eventually. For launch, Nintendo said they wanted to focus on making the Switch a capable machine for playing games and not other content.
Reggie had this to say:
We’re talking to a range of companies about other services, companies like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon — things that will come in time. In our view, these are not differentiators. What differentiates us is the way you play with the Nintendo Switch and what you can play. And that will continue to be our focus into the future as we continue driving this platform.
It is good to get confirmation of these apps. I’m guessing it will be a marquee moment in whatever Nintendo does for E3 in June. While everything under the sun seems to support Netflix, Hulu, etc, the mobile nature of the Switch would really make for some enjoyable nights of playing games before winding down with a movie or TV show.
Hopefully Netflix, Amazon and Hulu make the “switch” (sorry, I had to) sooner rather than later.
