Microsoft announces Xbox Game Pass, 100+ games for rental for $9.99 per month
Microsoft announced a new program, the Xbox Game Pass, today for Xbox One. This service will allow Xbox One users to download and play over 100 games digitally for only $9.99. Think of it as Microsoft’s version of EA’s Access service.
The company says over 100 Xbox One and backwards compatible Xbox 360 games will be available for Xbox Game Pass when it launches later this spring. It will be tested by members of the Xbox Preview Program starting today and will get a tested at a later date for Xbox Live Gold members before becoming available to all sometime in the next few months.
This is a pretty bold move by Microsoft. Some of the titles shown off in the service’s announcement include Halo 5 Guardians, Terreria, Mad Max and the Mega Man Legacy Collection. Of course, you don’t own these games while subscribed you are essentially just renting them as long as your membership is paid for.
Still, this combined with EA Access and the monthly Games with Gold titles could pretty much take care of an Xbox One gamer’s needs though combined XBL Gold ($10) plus a month of Game Pass ($10) plus a month of Access ($5) would run you $25 per month.
