Rumor: Nintendo Switch to be $249 in US, Reddit mods verify leaker’s credentials

It has been rumored for a while that the Nintendo Switch will cost $250. Nikkei in Japan believes it will be 25,000 gen which Nintendo often translates directly into dollars and now a verified Best Buy employee on Reddit is saying that the retailer has updated their systems to include a $249.99 price for the Switch.

Since this is essentially both Nintendo’s next-gen console and handheld in one package I see this is a great price. Both Zelda and a new Mario are rumored for launch along with Splatoon possibly being packed in with every system.

While I would still count this as a rumor, the Reddit mods have apparently verified the Best Buy employee’s credentials and believe he is legit. This could still be off but it’s looking more and more like it will be 249.

Not for anything, but it’s more than that amount, they’re dead in the water. Nobody is gonna wanna do more than a few hundred for Nintendo anymore they need to gain back the public’s trust. So that they can take more risks than they do now. Hopefully things get better for them. We can only hope that the system brings more satisfactory results to make Nintendo more stable than empty promises that lead to their downfall or drastic decline into oblivion. Not that this will be it, but it would certainly be a catalyst – if Nintendo messes up even one thing about this. We’ll know in more than a day from now. All I know is even if Nintendo gets everything else right, if price isn’t what people expect it to be, it’s over – slowly yet gradually, it will be over. I am optimistic though I think…they’ve hopefully….finally learned something in ten years since…that’s what I want to believe at least. Hope VC games for GameCube and other stuff is announced.

It’s too much. I don’t mean it’s not worth it, but for it to really sell, it needs to be less, after all it needs to capture the 3DS market. It needs to be 199.00. I think 249.00 is probably a fair price for the machine, but it’s not one that is going to get parents to buy it for their kids. 199.00 and games need to be 49.99.
