Capcom aiming for 4M sales of RE7 at launch
Capcom has high expectations of Resident Evil 7. Recently one of their marketing directors told MCV that the publisher is hoping for 4 million copies of the horror game to be sold on day one when it releases January 24.
“Ideally, we’d love to sell 4m on Day One globally. That would be great. Looking at what we see in the pre-orders and trends these days, we’re pretty confident we are going to get there. All the signs that we have seen across the market, whether it’s from the UK or from other territories, are very positive so far. We’re not sitting back and relaxing at all because we want to push that. The confidence is there.”
I don’t know how realistic this is. The game has a lot of positive buzz and fans are interested in this new, first person and seemingly PT inspired direction, but 4M? RE6 went onto sell over 6M copies lifetime so I’m sure this game will get to 4M, just maybe not in the first 24 hours.
Hopefully we don’t see comments from Capcom brass months after release saying RE7 didn’t sell as well as they hoped. 4M lifetime alone for such a dramatic reboot of an established franchise should be hailed as a great success.
