Rumor: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain not coming to 360/PS3

This news from Konami is sure to leave a sour taste in the mouths of PS3/360 gamers who were planning on buying the short MGSV: Ground Zeroes in March. The latest issue of Game Informer which has a 20 page blow out on Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain doesn’t like Xbox 360 and PS3 as consoles that The Phantom Pain will release on.

The magazine clearly lists PS3/360 as platforms that Ground Zeroes will ship on but the REAL Metal Gear Solid V, subtitled The Phantom Pain, will only be available on PS4/Xbox One. That’s what one NeoGAF user is saying though I’d count this as a rumor for now.

This could still be a mistake by Game Informer but I doubt very much that they’d go to press with a major error like this. I don’t know why Konami’s PR department is handling this game so poorly. They let Kojima basically bad mouth Ground Zeroes every other day when he says Phantom Pain will be so much bigger and better, and then they let it slip that Ground Zeroes is 2-4 hours in length.

Still, at least this means The Phantom Pain won’t be held back by the 360/PS3’s hardware specs. I wouldn’t expect Phantom Pain until late 2015 at the earliest, 2016 possibly. When you look at it that way it makes sense why it wouldn’t come to last-gen systems as the 360/PS3 market will be most likely be non-existent by the time Phantom Pain hits store shelves.
