5.86 million Wii U’s shipped worldwide since launch, 2.41m sold in 2013

Nintendo’s Q3 Earnings are out finally, released in Japan overnight. A small surprise is that the Wii U has sold a bit better than some expected. Not by a wide margin, but not bad overall.

Before the holidays, the Wii U was sitting at a lowly 3.5-3.8 million units. It appears that during October-December, Nintendo managed to shift almost 2 million units as Nintendo says they’ve sold 5.86 million Wii U systems since launch. Though there is a good chance Nintendo means that they shipped 5.86 million Wii U systems since launch, not sold.

That’s not a fantastic turn around but I wasn’t sure if the system would pass 5 million, much less almost crack 6 million. The Wii U only sold 220k in the US during November and 480k during December. So the US makes up about 750k of that including October. Japan likely makes up a good portion too.

Wonder if PS4 has passed the Wii U with SOLD systems because PS4 has sold 4.2 million units ( before the end of 2013 )

Nintendo IMO have failed hard with the Wii U, and IMHO they are out of touch with gaming and gamers needs, and while Nintendo sit there and do nothing about the poor Wii U sales and reception the other companies like MS and Sony will pass them by leaving Nintendo out in the cold.

sad to question if it’s sold trough when they say sold numbers but hey it’s the cool thing to pick on nintendo nowadays so why not

Nintendo oftens cites shipped numbers in reports like this, sometimes re-phrasing things to sound like sold when they mean sold to retailers. No need to act like we’ve got some sort of anti-Nintendo agenda, if anything if you’ve read this site more than a few times you’d see that we’re very pro-Nintendo.
