Nintendo allowing Wii U cross platform play with iOS/Android

More news from game developers VooFoo about the Wii U. This is the first I’ve heard of it but apparently Nintendo is allowing developers get their online games to have cross platform play with Android and iOS.

VooFoo confirmed that Nintendo has been ‘open minded’ and allowed them to add cross platform play to their upcoming eShop game, Pure Chess.

They’ve also been very open minded in allowing us to support cross platform play with the iOS and Android versions of Pure Chess – this is a really great move and something I hope we’ll be able as developers to do much more in the future

This is a bold but great move by Nintendo. I know there are games coming to the Wii U that support cross platform play with PC and Mac but this is the first I’ve heard of it with mobile platforms.

Nintendo seems really keen on getting mobile devs to support the Wii U with how helpful they are with indie developers and their Nintendo Web Framework.

NO! Nintendo’s not supposed to give in; not like this. Whatever, this move better pay off as doing something is better than staying constant and doing nothing to help the situation.

What’s so bad about this? They’re simply allowing cross play with others, something that has been done many times before. Just usually with PC. I mean, there are already Wii U games that have cross play with PC and Mac too.

What games can it cross play with?

Cubemen 2 is coming later this year and allows cross platform play with PC, Mac, and Linux users. This appears to be something Nintendo has no issue with allowing.

Because if the games aren’t made to exclusively play on Wii U less people may be discouraged to look into the system who already have iOS and Android. But then again it can go either way. I guess the actual good thing is it will increase people’s awareness of Wii U as Nintendo needs to work on that so this will help their case. And to be honest people who play PC are more likely in most cases to play a console if it supports cross platform play unlike mobile devices where people really won’t spend a ton of money like on consoles so it would be better for Nintendo if they had done cross platform for PC and Mac. Also I hate mobile devices and classify them as abominations to the game industry as the games there don’t even come close to being games at all and are for non gamers but that’s just my opinion. But Nintendo is in a tight spot and don’t want them just agreeing to everything that devs ask cuz they’re desperate for business as I want them to only make decisions that help their case; as their downfall would be the end of gaming if u ask me. And I never play mobile and will never develop for it so it’s pointless for mobile cross platform plat anyway. But if the cross platform play were with 3DS then I would be putting down my money.

Well if they can’t get those games to be exclusive I’d rather have them then not get them at all and cross platform play at least ensures you’ll have a larger population of people to play with, at least potentially. Wow, too many words that start with the letter P in there!

          • Nintendo Fan 4 Lif3

Yeah, if it’s not exclusive devs may start getting passive with it as it is so Nintendo has to make sure they stay exclusive or else everyone will pass if off.

Cubemen 2 on Wii U is cross-platform. Out either later this year or early next year.
