Shigeru Miyamoto thinks the Wii U will be turned around soon. He should, he works for Nintendo!
He has repeatedly acknowledged in the past that delays of first party software like Wii Fit U, Pikmin 3 and Wonderful 101 have played a big role in the Wii U not selling well globally.
With Pikmin 3 coming out next month (In America, this month in other regions) the popular belief is that the Wii U will start selling better once a steady flow of good games arrives.
Miyamoto said recently:
Yeah. After this there is Lego City Undercover and The Wonderful 101. We also have Super Mario 3D World, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Mario Kart 8 further in the future. So please buy a Wii U soon! I’ve been waiting to see numbers catch up this summer.
I don’t think Wii U sales will turn around all that much until October/November/December. Pikmin 3 could move it above 50k per month in the US again during August, heck maybe even close to 100k. I don’t think Wonderful 101 will help much either and September will probably be pretty bad for the system unless Wind Waker HD comes out on the first day of October.
Hopefully things turn around soon for the system and maybe Pikmin 3 will surprise us all and prove to be a good system seller after all.
