Activision’s CEO Bobby Kotick has come out and said that the Wii U launch was disappointing yet again. He also has skepticism over the launch of next-gen consoles.
The shift in release dates of competing products, the disappointing launch of the Wii U, uncertainties regarding next-generation hardware, and subscriber declines in our World of Warcraft business all raise concerns, as do continued challenges in the global economy.
It is odd that he’s so skeptical over whether new consoles from Sony/Microsoft since I’m sure Activision is preparing some big launch content for those platforms. With Destiny and COD Ghosts on their plate it looks like Activision has the next year or so planned out pretty well.
Kotick also expressed disappointment in the Wii U launch months ago. Perhaps Activision is “uncertain” over the launches of the next Xbox and PS4 because they’re afraid those consoles will meet a similar fate as the Wii U did in their first few months? We’ll have to wait and see.
