Wii U sales triple in France due to Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate
More good news for Nintendo regarding the Wii U’s European sales. It appears that Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate didn’t just have a big effect in the UK where Wii U sales rose by 125% last week.
Nintendo France’s Philippe Lavoué revealed in an interview that the system’s sales tripled the week of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate’s release. Philippe said in the interview:
We think that the games will help accelerate the Wii U’s sales, for example its sales have tripled compared to last week thanks to the release of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate.
This goes with what I’ve been saying for a while now that Nintendo will likely wait until more big first party games release to consider a Wii U price drop. They need some good software to attract buyers. If Wii Fit U, Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101 and Yarn Yoshi don’t improve sales substantially after this summer then I would expect a fall price drop by $50 to ramp up hype for the newest 3D Mario and Mario Kart 8.
