EA denies reports of Dead Space 4 getting cancelled, says story was made up

Dead-Space-3

EA’s Peter Moore has strongly denied claims that Dead Space 4 has been cancelled following weak launch sales of Dead Space 3. He took to the comments section of Games Industry’s website to refute this story saying:

Standard, shoddy website journalism recipe, born out of a desperate need to increase click-thru rates to support advertising revenue. Fabricate a story using an “unnamed source”, post it first thing in the morning, add the letters” EA” to the story (oh, and link it to micro-transactions – always a fan favourite) and then stand back and enjoy the vitriol which you turn into revenue. Rinse and repeat…

Yikes. It appears that there is a strong chance the site that originated this story, Videogamer.com, may have falsified information. They’re saying they will have a formal response to this accusation from EA later today.

Moore went onto say he’s upset with Videogamer.com with reporting a false story more than he is upset with any other sites that reported on videogamer’s rumor, saying:

Thanks Matt – yes it’s me, and in answer to the question above, my comments were fairly and squarely aimed at Videogamer. My issue is not the rejection of community feedback (we get that in bucketloads all day long and we learn from it in real time), rather it was the fabrication of a story in order to generate controversy and ultimately readership.

I can’t see Peter Moore coming out and denying this claim so strongly if it was true. It will be interesting to see how this complicated situation plays out. We’ll keep you posted.
