If you haven’t heard the folks over at Chipworks are wonderful folks. A few weeks ago they performed some expensive, in-depth analysis of the Wii U’s GPU by taking impressive die photos for the NeoGAF community. NeoGAF users originally raised $200 to give to Chipworks to do so and I believe that money has been refunded though I will need to follow up on that one.
Now Chipworks has sent these very same NeoGAF users a great die photo of the Wii U’s CPU “Espresso”. While I’m no expert and I can’t tell much from this image it is a great gesture by Chipworks to do this for practically nothing. Photos like this can cost thousands of dollars and I believe they’re doing it for free or for a small fee.
The NeoGAF community did a fine job analyzing the GPU photos discovering many things about it like how it possesses 4MB more eDRAM than previously thought. At least than what I had thought.
I’m sure once they, and others put their heads together we’ll be blessed with more insight into the hardware of the Wii U.
A big thanks goes out to Chipworks and the NeoGAF community!
