Rumor: Sony to release 4G Vita, won’t cut system price but will drop memory card prices
A new patent filed by Sony indicates that the electronics maker is planning a brand new PS Vita model. Don’t get your hopes up folks, it doesn’t sound like it will change much.
This new patent shows new ports on the bottom of the Vita, like a USB port, HDMI as well as a new charging connector and 4G. Because the reason no one was buying Vitas was because it was only 3G.
Rumor has it that Sony will announce this new model at their Destination Playstation event on February 20th. The 4G model will replace the 3G model on store shelves and retail for $299. The WiFi model reportedly isn’t going to get any price drop below the $249 normal price point.
Sony is rumored to be announcing a price drop on Vita memory cards soon but I can’t imagine them helping the sitution much at all. Sure, 4GB cards for $15 would be great. 8GB for $20 would be fantastic.
But a large reason why you don’t hear memory card complaints with the 3DS is because Nintendo gives consumers a 2GB or 4GB card with every device and 3DS games usually save their most important game data onto the game card itself.
Sony wants to sell their latest memory card format so we probably won’t see an end to these Vita memory cards anytime soon.
