Rumor: PS4 to stream PS3 games

Sony purchased game streaming company Gaikai last year and now the Wall Street Journal is reporting that they will be putting that purchase to good use with the next Playstation.

The PS4 may not be backwards compatible with PS3 game discs, but WSJ is reporting that it will play PS3 games and other titles via a game streaming service similar to Gaikai.

The new technology, to be unveiled Wednesday along with the new console, will allow users to play games delivered over the Internet, these people said. The streaming service, they added, is designed to use current PlayStation 3 titles on the new console; the new device is also expected to play new games stored on optical discs.

Seems in line with previous rumors. I really hope the next Playstation plays PS3 games, I’d be terribly disappointed if it didn’t. Having BC built into the console along with this streaming technology would be ideal.

Hopefully Sony will confirm or deny this rumor on February 20th when they just might reveal the PS4 officially.
