We asked Nintendo last September how much it would cost Wii U players to replace a broken or missing Wii U game pad since the controller isn’t sold on its own in America. They didn’t give a specific number, but did say it would be for a fee.
Some estimates around the web have stated that Nintendo is charging $80 roughly to replace a Wii U Game Pad. That isn’t the case for this one GAF user who was charged $150 with shipping by Nintendo to replace his lost Wii U controller.
So today I called Nintendo to order a replacement. I had read online that replacement gamepads were around $80. This apparently is incorrect. The amount Nintendo is billing my card is $150+ shipping.
Yikes. I didn’t think Nintendo would charge that much. $100? Yes, that would be the largest amount I’d accept. But half the cost of the 8GB Basic Set?
I was hoping this was simply an isolated incident with one player but Nintendo’s support page confirms a price of $140 for a Game Pad replacement. Check out the confirmation below.
Yes, Nintendo is charging $140 + tax to replace Wii U game pads. Protect those controllers folks!
