EDGE is reporting that Sony’s new console, the Playstation 4, will release in Europe during early 2014. This isn’t that outrageous as the PS3 shipped in Europe after it landed in America the holiday season prior. Their sources say the new device is on track for a holiday 2013 release in the US and Japan.
The controller may look like a Wii U Game Pad as some thought. EDGE’s sources say the controller will look a lot like a Dual Shock with a touch pad in place of the start/select buttons, resembling the Vita’s rear touch pad. It remains to be seen if this ‘touch pad’ everyone keeps referring to is a full-blown touch screen like the Wii U, or a touch sensitive surface that isn’t a screen like on the back end of the Vita.
Their sources also report that the PS4 will be slightly more powerful than the next Xbox. This appears to be largely due to a small difference in GPUs between the two consoles.
Let’s hope popular speculation is correct and that Sony reveals the next Playstation on Feb. 20th. I can’t wait to see it in action.
