Capcom has released a long press release detailing their for the first nine months of the fiscal year of 2012. One of the things that stood (other than Dragon’s Dogma being a success and Resident Evil 6 being a flop) out in the report is that Monster Hunter Tri G was labelled a ‘smash hit’ by Capcom.
If you recall, Monster Hunter Tri G is an HD up-port of a Wii game for the Wii U. It will release next month in Europe and America but the game debuted with the Wii U in Japan back in December.
Capcom spoke very highly of the game’s success saying:
Furthermore, “Monster Hunter 3 (Tri) G HD Ver.”, our first title for the new console “Wii U”, which was launched in December 2012, also became a smash hit.
I think that makes the first big third party success story on the Wii U. Sure, Zombi U is doing pretty well but it doesn’t appear to be doing nearly as well as Monter Hunter Tri G did in Japan alone.
Hopefully this is the beginning of a long string of third party hits for Nintendo on their brand new console.
