Madden NFL 25 not coming to Vita, 3DS, or Wii U?

Electronic Arts announced yesterday that Madden NFL 25 will be releasing August 27th. No surprise there.

The potential surprise in this announcement is the platforms they’ve announced the annual football release for. Currently they have only confirmed that the game will head to Xbox 360 and PS3. EA says:

Madden NFL 25 will be available for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system for $59.99.

No PC, PS Vita, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo Wii or Nintendo Wii U versions have been revealed yet. This could all be a mistake and could change soon. That said, it is very unusual for EA to not announce all the platforms that the game is coming to right away. They’ve had no problem announcing platforms other than 360/PS3 in the past.

The 3DS version being absent isn’t a big surprise as the 3D handheld only received a Madden game as a launch title in March 2011 and hasn’t seen a new Madden entry since. The PS Vita is a curious case as well. Perhaps the Vita version of Madden last year wasn’t all that profitable?

Hopefully sports gamers shouldn’t have to wait too long. I can’t imagine these games not coming to other platforms like PC, Wii U, Vita but it is odd that EA doesn’t feel it necessary to announce them right now.
