PS4′s Jaguar CPU specs detailed by AMD

AMD has shed shed some new light on the PS4′s CPU, Jaguar. They’ve released this fancy chart at the top of this post with some more details on how the CPU stacks up, including another one of their CPUs for comparison.

Its unique that they say Jaguar has 4 cores when the PS4 will have 8-cores in its version of Jaguar. Maybe its a single modified CPU, maybe its two processors together.

The Jaguar processor is pretty impressive. I can’t wait to see how PS4 games look in a few years. If Killzone: Shadow Fall is any indication the combination of this CPU and the large amount of DDR5 RAM will make for some visually impressive software.

It will be interesting to see what changes Microsoft makes to AMD’s Jaguar in their next-gen Xbox. Rumors have been rampant for months now that Microsoft will be using the AMD Jaguar in addition to Sony’s Playstation 4. Would they opt for only the quad-core version? Is Sony packing two of these things into their console or getting a special version?

What do you think of Sony packing the PS4 with top-notch hardware that is easy to develop for? Leave us a comment below with your thoughts!

Xbox 8 will have a scalable GPU module, which can be upgraded over time. Not long ago, MS has filed a new patent for modular CPU/GPU tech. It also means that Xbox 8 will be launched with mutiple configurations.

If true would that mean there would be multiple graphic profiles for every game. I don’t believe MS will go this route though.

Miss-leading article.. AMD have NOT stated this is PS4′s Jag- CPU Specs at all. What is shown is simply this ( Jaguar: A Next-Gen-Low-Power x86-64 Core ) AMD have not ONCE stated anything about PS4 in the specs given.

So “PS4′s Jaguar CPU specs detailed by AMD” is NOT true.

AMD has said that a cut down version of the same APU will be available to consumers, albeit without Sony’s technology ( THAT’S what has been shown above )

AMD told The INQUIRER that the APU used is a custom A-series part that has a mix of AMD and Sony technology However John Taylor, head of marketing for AMD’s Global Business Units, said that a version of the same chip without Sony’s technology will be available for consumers later this year. ( That’s what is shown in article )

Taylor told The INQUIRER that the AMD branded APU chip will not have the same number of cores or the same computing capability as Sony’s part.

He said, “Everything that Sony has shared in that single chip is AMD [intellectual property], but we have not built an APU quite like that for anyone else in the market. It is by far the most powerful APU we have built to date, it leverages [intellectual property] that you will find in our A-series APUs later this year, our new generation of APUs but none that will quite be to that level of sheer number of cores, sheer number of teraflops.”
