Rumor: Monster Hunter franchise is exclusive to 3DS until 2014
The very same people who broke rumors about the 3DS XL and a Dragon Quest 7 remake for the 3DS have another big one for us. They’re saying they’ve got word about Capcom and Nintendo nailing down a contract in 2011 to ensure that the Monster Hunter franchise stays exclusive to the 3DS for three years.
If this contract was signed in 2011 that would mean it could be ending in 2014. That could be a light of hope at the end of the long tunnel the PS Vita finds itself in because it could mean Monster Hunter could head to Vita after that.
Or it could mean Nintendo simply has to get Capcom to renew that contract after 2014, keeping the IP exclusive. It would make sense too, because Nintendo publishing Monster Hunter in the west has made the franchise more successful outside of Japan than ever.
Normally I wouldn’t so sure about the validity of this rumor but the people its coming from have been very accurate in the past. They’ve got numerous things right, like Dragon Quest 7 and the 3DS XL.
It certainly looks like Monster Hunter won’t be the franchise to save the PS Vita, at least not for another year or two.
