Wii U sells 307k in Japan, 160k copies of Mario and 10k Zombi U sold
The Wii U had an impressive start in Japan this past weekend. The first numbers are coming out of Japan right now from Famitsu.
Nintendo’s new console managed to sell 307k systems in a few days. New Super Mario Bros U moved 160k units, Zombi U shifted 10k and Monster Hunter Tri G sold 106k. Nintendo Land convinced 60k people to join in on the mini-game fun.
If you want to compare this to the Wii’s Japanese launch in 2006 that system sold 350k during its first weekend. So the Wii U actually falls short of that launch. If you recall the Wii U only fell short of the Wii’s launch sales in America by 50k units in November.
Still, not a bad start for Nintendo in Japan.
