Christmas 2012 is past us now and loads of people got video game related presents. A lot of people probably woke up to find Nintendo’s new HD console under their tree. Some of them may have even found copies of Call of Duty: Block Ops 2 with their new system too.
Black Ops 2′s small online user base on the young Wii U platform has been well publicized. Probably too much. We haven’t reported much on it here but with so many people receiving Wii U systems as gifts we thought we should take a look at the player count.
Most people don’t have work or school on Christmas and are busy playing with their new gadgets all day. Between 5pm and 11pm on Christmas day we often saw between 2,500 and 3,000 players online in online competitive modes.
Zombie mode wasn’t as popular, but it did see an increase in activity as well. Between 200 and 300 users could be seen playing during these hours.
This would lead us to believe that almost between 2,800 and 3,300 people were playing Black Ops 2′s various online modes today. Some people may not get around to playing their new Wii U systems until tomorrow and some may still be performing those tiresome, annoying system updates.
But the player population has seen a good boost, even if it is still really low. In the past week you could often see 1,000 players online, maybe 1,500 if you combined Zombie and Competitive players together.
So it appears that on Christmas day the Black Ops 2 online player population may have doubled. Or perhaps some people busted out their Wii U systems and Black Ops 2 copies again after not playing either for weeks. We can’t say for sure but it appears to picking up a bit.
