Nintendo releasing Pokedex app for iOS

Nintendo will be releasing their first application for iOS soon. Like today in Japan. The Pokedex 3D Pro you know from the Nintendo 3DS eShop will be available on iOS devices. But it won’t be called Pokedex 3D Pro, it will only be called Pokedex.

The app will cost 170 yen but will only come with the Unova region Pokemon and all of their information. Extra regions like Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh will be purchasable in app for 500 yen each. If you remember the 3DS version of the 3D Pro Pokedex does cost a pretty penny so this seems in line with that pricing.

Nintendo is smart to release this app on smartphones. It could promote interest in Pokemon games more so and the worst it can do is lead to a small amount of extra Pokemon game/3DS hardware sales.

They’ve also said they will allow Miiverse to be accessible through web browsers and smartphones so this move doesn’t come as much of a surprise. Still, it’s odd to see Nintendo releasing anything on an Apple platform.
