Hideki Kamiya explains why his Wii U games aren’t 1080p

Hideki Kamiya really loves putting people in their place via his twitter account. The Game Designer from Platinum Games responded to a lot of fan questions recently concerning the Wii U and The Wonderful 101.

Kamiya agreed with one fan that said they’d take a solid framerate (60fps) over 1080p visuals anyday. When one fan mocked the Wii U by saying “So it’s not powerful enough to do 1080p and 60fps? Woohoo, what a “next-gen” console!, “ Kamiya then replied by asking that fan “Can u c how many heroes these are ?”

And finally Hideki Kamiya confirmed why his game, The Wonderful 101, doesn’t run in native 1080p on the Wii U. A fan asked him why the game isn’t displayed in 1080p and Kamiya responded by saying “Cuz 60 fps’s more important to me.”

Sounds like Kamiya has his head on straight. He isn’t sacrificing the game’s performance in favor of higher resolution graphics. I can get behind that, though I still want to see a healthy amount of 1080p Wii U games in the future.

Same here, but I can also live with that. Of course, even smooth framerate and amazing graphics can’t save a game if it lacks other fundamental aspects like tight controls, art direction, and good design all around.

It’s why Crysis 2 was mediocre because it went to consoles, and without it’s great graphics it wasn’t all that stellar anymore.
