Rumor: GameStop will begin Wii U pre-orders in early September
Rumor has it that GameStop will begin taking pre-orders for the Wii U system in early September. No price is set at the moment but it will likely require at least a $50 deposit.
The Wii U release date isn’t official but speculation is that it will release in November just before Thanksgiving.
I know. Big leap there!
It would make sense for GameStop to start taking pre-orders in September. They began Wii orders in September 2006 just before Nintendo announced a November 19th release date in North America.
GameStop is already listing certain Wii U games for release on November 14th so that indicates the console will come out shortly thereafter.
This rumor generates from Nintendo Everything. In the past they’ve been pretty spot on with their leads and they are ones who provided the below image of Wii U game releases that lists some Wii U games arriving on November 14th. I’ve reached out to my sources at GameStop and they seem to think this rumor will prove true though they wouldn’t tell me if that was because they knew anything special.
It doesn’t seem all that outrageous of a rumor to begin with.
The Wii U will be playable at the GameStop EXPO in San Antonio, Texas on August 29th. I would think if GameStop is working with Nintendo in order to provide demo units for the even that they may have a good idea on when to take pre-orders.
Rumors have been circulating since E3 that Nintendo may hold a conference during August or September to announce the official Wii U release date. Our guess is that the console will cost $299 with Nintendo Land and arrive in stores on November 18th.
We’ll be attending the GameStop EXPO and will provide you with developer interviews, game demonstrations and videos of the entire event.
