Rumor: GameStop to hold trade special for 3DS to 3DS XL upgrades, will transfer data between units for users.
GoNintendo is reporting that GameStop is preparing a very good trade-in promotion for 3DS owners looking to upgrade to the 3DS XL when it releases in August.
– stores will be offering a better upgrade incentive for those trading in a 3DS towards a 3DS XL
– in-store data transfer for those trading 3DS to 3DS XL
The source of this rumor comes from a GameStop manager. With the 3DS XL’s release coming up very soon I’d expect GameStop to have something like this in the works.
Let’s hope the part about transferring data between 3DS units will prove true. We don’t doubt the trade value of your 3DS will probably be upsetting but if GameStop can make transferring purchased eShop games and save files easy and seamless it will be the preferred place to purchase a 3DS XL if you’re upgrading from the original 3DS.
To transfer data from 3DS units you need both the 3DS units turned on and an internet connection. I don’t know about you but nearly every time I’ve searched for Wi-Fi while inside a GameStop the results are never good. GameStop locations don’t currently have Wi-Fi.
Perhaps they plan to give every store wireless internet or maybe there will be some sort of Nintendo approved kiosk or station to transfer data.
We’ll have to see how this rumor plays out but let’s hope it comes true.
