Playstation Vita: Second Week Sales Disappointing

Are the Japanese losing interest in the PS Vita already?

By Kevin Douglas Femmel

(Dec. 28, 2011) — The Playstation Vita had a strong debut last week in Japan, selling 320k units in its first two days on the market. It didn’t fare so well in its second week.

The new device sold roughly 70k units in Japan for the week of Dec. 19- Dec. 25. It was outsold by the PS3, Wii, PSP, and the 3DS. To compare, the 3DS sold 480k units during the same week.

There aren’t any reports of shortages in the region, one has to wonder if possibly the casual Japanese consumer has any interest in the platform given that the 3DS is taking off and that the PSP still has some life left in it.
